SAN FRANCISCO MINI RETREAT

Saturday, February 11, 2023 via Zoom

          10:00 - 12:00 and 1:30 - 3:30 PST

During our morning session, we will discuss Nobel Prize winner J.M. Coetzee's Age of Iron.  Reviewers have said:  "A superbly realized novel whose truths cut to the bone."  "It is, quite simply, a magnificent and unforgettable work." "...a lean and terrible beauty that makes it quite unlike anything that has preceded it."  A novel that touches the deepest and most basic human needs while chronicling one person's life and death.

In the afternoon session we will compare and contrast our morning novel with two poems.  Antije Krog, who served as a reporter for The Truth and Reconciliation Committee, is considered one of South Africa's greatest living poets.  We'll begin with Krog's poem, Country of Grief and Grace.  For our second, final poem we will turn to Maya Angelou's His Day is Done.

Two-session Zoom event fee:  $20
