G’day Mate,

I'll be stuffed! 2016 is over. I guess I’ve been walkabout in the Outback for far too long hunting crocodiles. The new year is almost upon us and with it the arrival of spring, heralded by The Annual Evergreen Hospice Gala.

Last year's gala was a ripper. This year the committee is stoked to do even better. They've been flat out like a lizard drinking, working to make sure it’ll be just as brilliant as the last. They invited me to join you to celebrate my homeland, the world’s sixth largest country, with "A Night Down Under."

I’m delighted to be your guide on a tour of wineries, horse races, coral reefs, opera houses and other spectacular locales.

While Canadians are whingeing about your frigid winters, Australia is enjoying hot

mid-summer weather on the bottom of the world. A Night Down Under will bring you a warm feeling that will keep you until your own summer arrives. In addition, you’ll also get warm and fuzzy from knowing you’re helping Evergreen Hospice. They’re a great organization which provides support to so many people living in your community when they are trying to cope with a life-threatening illness or the grief of loss.

Be there when it starts at 6:00 p.m. sharp, or you’ll miss the wine tasting and the barbie appetizers! If you’re wondering what to wear bright colours are in, and bring a stylish hat or fascinator for the "Melbourne Cup Crazy Hat" contest. Not too formal, though--we Australians are casual and easy going.

The hall will be organized as a tour of the country with offerings such as tastings of Australian wines, gaming (kangaroo races anyone?) trivia contests, and of course, dancing to our popular music from down under and beyond. We Australians know how to have fun, and we’re going to show you how we do it!
