Radical Teaching: Reading Workshop as a Powerful Space for Transformation and Liberation
Recent demonstrations of anti-Blackness and racial terror have resulted in uprisings across not only the nation, but the world, along with renewed demands for racial justice. This national spotlight on institutional and systemic racism creates increased demands for racial justice in education. During this workshop, Dr. Cherry-Paul will propose four pillars for radical teaching in reading workshop that can lead to transformative and liberatory experiences for Black and Brown students.

Sonja Cherry-Paul, Ed.D.,  has taught middle school English for twenty years. She is a literacy consultant who served on the Jane Addams Children’s Book Award committee for ten years. Sonja leads presentations about literacy at national conferences and provides professional development for educators on reading and writing instruction and racial literacy.
