C.S. Lewis wrote an essay entitled "The Weight of Glory".  In it, he attempts to awaken the sleeping Man - you... and me.  He speaks of the heart, the very center of your Truest Self and speaks of the work of 'the world' to rip it out.

"In a sort of ghastly simplicity we remove the organ and demand the function. We make men without chests and expect of them virtue and enterprise. We laugh at honour and are shocked to find traitors in our midst. We castrate and bid the geldings be fruitful."

Why are men surprised that they are not wildly fruitful??  (do we even think about a life that produces the kind of Fruit God describes in the book of Galatians in the New Testament?)

  • If you plant a seed, don't you expect it to grow?
  • If you own a bull and a heifer, don't you hope that their union will produce a calf?
  • When it's time to plant new grass, wouldn't you be surprised if you seeded a well prepared piece of ground and it didn't slowly become green with new growth??
  • And if you planted a vineyard, don't you do so in the hope of harvesting rich grapes over time?

But we don't seem to WONDER much that the Life of God, given to us in the new birth, is not EXPLODING in our own world.  Here's another 'take' on this...

In the apocalyptic movie, starring Denzel Washington, The Book of Eli, he carries 'the book' that he discovers after a great war has decimated the earth. He devours it on his 30-year walk across a 3,000 mile expanse. What does he know about 'the book' that we don't?

In a world where we are numbed to God's Message that tells us that the Bible is the 'sword of the spirit', we find it easier to spiritualize the words of Ephesians 6 rather than use it as the Weapon that it is.

I challenge you to watch this entire film.  Let this modern day Parable move you to godly aggression, perseverance and the kind of warfare that only God, Himself, can teach you...

In another long and brutal war (the one that is invisible to the naked eye), it is easy to forget that our hearts actually matter to God. Getting away for a Catalytic Weekend is a great start. One ancient writer understood this after he met Jesus in a very disruptive Encounter. His name was Paul (Saul) and he experienced this 'growing up' that we must all embrace. He put it this way:

"Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal."  2 Corinthians 4:16-18

It will be a remarkable weekend.  Here's the invitation:

Come and See!

“The result of this weekend for me was the awakening of my heart to the Larger Story that God is telling. I woke up to the reality that God’s story had been going on long before I arrived here and that he had a unique role for me to play.”
