What Does it Mean to be a Youth Advocate in Shelters?

Exploring Programming Concepts & Trauma-Informed Interactions with Children and Teens

This how-to training dives into the concepts of youth advocacy while practicing support group techniques & intentional play with young people in shelter programming. You'll be moving, playing & thinking about how to provide supportive, calming and empowering connections. The training is open only to youth advocates currently working in shelters.

To Register for this Event:

1. Apply for the Scholarship from ODVN. In order to attend this training you must apply for a scholarship. Only those who receive a scholarship will be eligible to attend the event. Please complete the scholarship application before proceeding with the registration below. Please keep in mind that if you receive a scholarship but are unable to attend the training, we ask that you contact ODVN so another colleague can receive a scholarship and participate. Thank you!

Event Details

ODVN Trainer: Sonia Ferencik, LISW-S, Child Trauma Training & Technical Assistance Specialist

Continuing Education Credits: 5 CEUS Please note that CEU credit hours will only be given for the hours you acutally attend training. To get a complete certificate of attendance for all the offered hours, you must attend the entire training. There are no exceptions.

Dress: Please dress casually and comfortaby. Temperatures in training environments are unpredictable so please dress in layers. 

Food and Materials: Due to grant restricftions, ODVN cannot provide food or snacks. Participants are encouraged to bring what they need to take care of themselves. There will be a one hour lunch break. Participants will be provided with all hand-outs and training materials but may find it useful to bring a laptop, tablet, pen or paper.
