This two day introductory-intermediate workshop is for victim advocates on the front lines of domestic violence and/or sexual assualt programs working with survivors from infants to older adults. 

          Victim Advocates regularly encounter stories and symptoms of trauma in their roles. Growing evidence shows that the impact of directly supporting others through their experiences of trauma goes beyond burn-out or fatigue. The toll of witnessing intense human experiences and emotions can contribute to a negative transformation of a helper's own sense of safety, and of being competent and purposeful. This workshop will provide you with the opportunity to examine your own experiences and become aware of the signs of both vicarious trauma and vicarious growth. You will learn to develop a personalized plan to repair negative effects as well as accelerate your resilience. Topics include external and individual factors impacting the effects of trauma work, identifying anchor points to stay steady and solid, and strategies for building empathetic resilience. This highly interactive workshop includes the use of movement, video, drumming, case study exercises, personal reflection and small group activities. Come with a desire to learn ways to maintain and sustain a balanced, healthy lifestyle while doing vitally important work.
