Wedneday, Thursday, & Friday

February 17-19, 2021

9:30 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. EST

This free training offers basic fundamentals and introductory skills for advocates serving domestic violence survivors and their children. You'll learn about the history of the domestic violence movement and how racism and sexism create barriers to serving marginalized groups. You'll explore how implicit bias affects the survivors you are serving and learn ways to become more culturally humble and inclusive. You will understand the impact of batterers on family dynamics  including life-generated and abuser-generated barriers. Through a trauma-informed lens, this webinar series teaches survivor-defined advocacy, safety-planning, and strategies for risk management.  Topics include danger and lethality assessments, legal remedies, and the pros and cons of protection orders. You will learn about Ohio's Crime Victim Compensation program and much more. Come with a desire to explore difficult topics, share with others, and leave with new knowledge to work effectively with survivors and children experiencing domestic violence.

This hybrid training consists of 12 hours of live webinars and 12 hours of online learning. After you've registered, you'll receive a link to register for the online learning portion. All online learning should be completed by Monday, Feb. 15, 2021.
