Support Group Structure and Activites for Youth

Thursday, September 29, 2022

10:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. (EST)

Creating supportive activities for youth living in shelters demands a particular approach from advocates beyond "crafts and a list of activities." Support groups and activities with children and their families need to be rooted in trauma-informed approaches and empathy for youth living in a temporary shelter with others. Our interactions with youth need to be centered on relating to children and seeing their positivity while supporting them with flexible choices if they struggle.

Come if you enjoy hands-on experiences as we practice together, creating a space for learning and enhancing your skills. We will model youth support groups and discuss family group activities. As a participant, you will learn to structure a youth or family support group, consider themes and activity content, and learn mind-body regulations activities.

All training content will be through the lens of youth impacted by domestic violence, trauma, loss, and shelter adjustment. In addition, each participant will receive ODVN's Youth Resiliency Posters and Support Groups with Youth and Family Resources.
