In this workshop, participants will explore what educators call a "growth mindset." We will review examples of ways to positively approach children, teens, and adults, amidst challenges created by the tactics of batterers. A growth mindset helps people reframe their approach to challenges and stay motivated to work to improve skills. For example, instead of thinking, "I can't do this," they think, "I can't do it yet."  

As advocates, we can adapt our statements and apply this concept to young people and adults applying this concept. With this approach, resiliency and hopefulness are centered. A growth mindset applies to both adults and children because they can develop the beliefs that foster resiliency, according to research from psychologist Dr. Carol Dweck. Highlights include trauma-informed approaches, dos, and don'ts, providing emotional and physical safety, and exploring your biases and expectations in your service.
