Curriculum & Assessment Workgroup

You're invited to connect with our community of Leaders and Learners!

Participation in the Curriculum & Assessment Workgroup will prepare you as a Director or Teacher, to deliver high-quality, aligned lessons to the children at your program.  It will also support the completion of the curriculum and assessment checklist required for Virginia Quality Level 3.

Intentional teaching has an impact on school readiness.  Taking the time to think purposefully about your curriculum or intentional teaching approach will help you support children’s learning more effectively.  The criteria for Virginia Quality Level 3 includes completion of the Virginia QRIS curriculum and assessment checklist to demonstrate selection and use of curriculum or other teaching framework aligned with Virginia’s Milestones of Child Development or Virginia’s Foundation Blocks for Early Learning; and developmentally appropriate practices.  A complete and validated Checklist is required prior to moving onto Level 4 or 5.

High quality early learning programs regularly assess their performance to determine what changes they can make to improve their services.  This workgroup provides opportunities for you to collaborate and reflect as a group with other programs who are also working on their curriculum & assessment checklist. These communities are facilitated by Curriculum Specialists who have expertise in intentional teaching, lesson planning, and the checklist.

Attendees will receive a certificate for 10 training hours and support from Virginia Quality Technical Assistance Providers via group sessions and follow up phone calls or on-site assistance.

Short, 30-minute Working Chats may be scheduled following each session during afternoon nap time to answer questions, provide feedback, and support your understanding of the Learning Session content.

The content is delivered in a progressive format, with each session building on information shared at the previous session.  It is important for attendees to participate in ALL sessions.  View the full syllabus.
