Are you an entrepreneur? Do you have intellectual property to protect? Are you an engineer, scientist or attorney who wants to master a crucial component of today’s knowledge economy?  This workshop provides you with an understanding of what it takes to determine if an idea is worth the process of obtaining a trademark, copyright or patent; the important differences among these three options; and how to go through the application and approval process without going broke.  You’ll learn about the costs of obtaining a patent, how to avoid unnecessary legal fees, and private and public supports to help you get there. Taught by an established inventor and holder of multiple patents, you’ll learn that all innovations are not patentable; the different types of patents that can be filed, and what type of patents have the greatest likelihood of success.

Each Participant Will Also Learn How To:

• Research your idea and compare it to other ideas/products already in existence
• Empower yourself by understanding the differences within the types of Intellectual property and how best to protect them
• Calculate the costs of trademark, copyright and patent protection and determine what choice makes the most  sense to pursue
• Keep costs low and find investors or other ways to fund your ideas
• Understand the differences in types of patents awarded and the chances of success.
• Structure and begin writing a patent application preparing it for submission

PRESENTER: Fran Barbaro, MBA & Entrepreneur, has her MBA in Technology and Entrepreneurship from the University of Liverpool. She has been awarded 4 patents from the US patent office based on technological advances to internet structure and design. She has eight additional patents pending. Her background has been in sales, marketing, engineering, and management with startups, large corporations, and service companies. She is currently building four companies to launch the patents that have been awarded, filed, and prosecuted.
