11.00 Update with SaskPower Boundary Dam Project

The Boundary Dam Integrated Carbon Capture and Storage Demonstration Project is a $1.4 billion project to retrofit the coal-fired unit 3 with carbon capture and an enhanced oil recovery system. The project when complete is expected to result in 1 million tonnes/year reduction in CO2 emissions. It will also reduce the output of Unit 3 from 139 MW to 110 MW. The project anticipates completion in 2015. The Canadian federal government paid $240 million towards the project. About Harsh Pershad:

Harsh has 10 years experience in energy, with 7 years in low carbon energy technology consultancy. Harsh leads Element Energy’s CCS activities. He has led CCS analysis for the Energy Technologies Institute, Committee on Climate Change, DECC, oil and gas companies, several regional CCS partnerships, IEA, the Governments of North Sea Basin Task Force. His work has examined the techno-economics of CO2 capture technologies, CO2 transport networks onshore and offshore, and the infrastructure, costs and taxation for a range of storage/ enhanced oil recovery configurations. Prior to joining Element Energy, Harsh was a Fulbright Scholar in the University of California at Berkeley and also carried out post-doctoral research in Cambridge. Harsh holds a D.Phil. from Oxford University and a BSc (Hons) from Imperial College, London. He is carrying out a part-time Executive MBA with Imperial College Business School
