6th Carbon Capture London conference
Getting ready for Phase 2 and Phase 3

Friday, March 27, 2015 from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM GMT

Our 6th Carbon Capture Journal forum in London on March 27 looks at the best way we can build on Phase 1 of carbon capture in the UK - (White Rose and Peterhead) to reach the point where an event increasing chunk of CO2 from burning fossil fuels in the UK can be captured and stored.

The conference reviews different ways the UK CCS industry can be developed - perhaps with clusters or CO2 EOR - and ways that the power of investors, regulators and the market can drive the path to CCS harder.

Speakers include

  • George Day, head of economic strategy, Energy Technologies Institute
  • Clare Anderson, Consultant, Select, WorleyParsons
  • Luke Warren, managing director, Carbon Capture and Storage Association
  • Dr Rex Gaisford CBE, director, Red Hydrocarbon
  • Chris Littlecott, Scottish Centre for Carbon Capture and Storage,
  • Emrah Durusut, senior consultant, Element Energy
  • Tony Alderson, CCS technical lead, Parsons Brinckerhoff
  • Dave Robson, SSI UK (on behalf of the Teeside Collective)

You can learn about

  • How the finance / investment / banking community currently looks at carbon capture (in the light of much talk about investors being reluctant to invest in unbated fossil fuel technology)
  • The current picture for carbon capture in the UK- DECC 2.5m financing for evaluating offshore CO2 storage sites
  • Better ways to predict and manage costs of CCS projects
  • The 10 best ways to keep CCS moving in the North Sea
  • A proposal to store carbon from 4 energy intensive firms in Teeside, BOC, SSI UK, Lotte Chemical and GrowHow

We'll also continue discussion of Red Hydrocarbon, an initiative led by Dr Rex Gaisford and supported by Carbon Capture Journal, to develop a financial instrument to channel money into carbon capture which can be driven by investors, regulators and the market, and work more effectively than ETS. You can get a preview of our colouring book here.

We recently heard that David Cameron, Ed Miliband and Nick Clegg have agreed "to end coal burning for power generation in the UK - unless it uses new clean-up technology," See . Let's help them keep this promise.

Speaker biographies

Allan Baker, Socit Gnrale

Allan Baker Managing Director, Global Head of Power Advisory and Project Finance has worked at Socit Gnrale for six years and has been involved in the power sector for more than 25 years, initially as an engineer and then in finance.

During his career he has advised on and financed projects in Europe, MENA, the US and Asia, and in sectors ranging from green-field renewable energy to the acquisition of large international power portfolios.

In recent years he has become a leading figure in the CCS area, having been instrumental in bringing the financing perspective to the policy debate based on his experience of advising on a number of the world’s largest carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects.

Allan was a member of the UK Government’s original CCS Development Forum, led the commercial section of the UK CCS Cost Reduction Task Force, whose results were published in a report in 2013, and was the author of a global CCS financing review for the Global CCS Institute (2014).
