Getting ready for Phase 2 and Phase 3

Our 6th Carbon Capture Journal forum in London on March 27 looks at the best way we can build on Phase 1 of carbon capture in the UK - (White Rose and Peterhead) to reach the point where an event increasing chunk of CO2 from burning fossil fuels in the UK can be captured and stored. 

The conference reviews different ways the UK CCS industry can be developed - perhaps with clusters or CO2 EOR - and ways that the power of investors, regulators and the market can drive the path to CCS harder.

Speaker biographies

Allan Baker, Socit Gnrale

Allan Baker Managing Director, Global Head of Power Advisory and Project Finance has worked at Socit Gnrale for six years and has been involved in the power sector for more than 25 years, initially as an engineer and then in finance.

During his career he has advised on and financed projects in Europe, MENA, the US and Asia, and in sectors ranging from green-field renewable energy to the acquisition of large international power portfolios.

In recent years he has become a leading figure in the CCS area, having been instrumental in bringing the financing perspective to the policy debate based on his experience of advising on a number of the world’s largest carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects.

Allan was a member of the UK Government’s original CCS Development Forum, led the commercial section of the UK CCS Cost Reduction Task Force, whose results were published in a report in 2013, and was the author of a global CCS financing review for the Global CCS Institute (2014).

Allan is currently advising the White Rose CCS project in the UK; one of two projects selected for the FEED stage support under the GBP1bn UK CCS Commercialisation scheme and is part of the team working on development of a commercial structure for the Teesside Industrial CCS project in the UK. He has also advised Masdar on the  Abu Dhabi CCS project and on the UK Powerfuel CCS (now Don Valley).

Allan has a BSc (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering, an MBA, is a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and a Chartered Engineer


Dave Robson – Technical Development Manager SSI UK

A Chemical Engineer by background with 25 years experience in the Steel Industry predominantly in the energy and power generation area at the Teesside site. Roles have included both technical, power station management and capital development fields including development of a business plan to keep the onsite power station operational during the period of cessation of iron and steelmaking and site wide involvement during the mothball and subsequent restart periods.

Currently heading up a team looking at making strategic improvements to the site energy consumption and CO₂ emissions including development of Carbon Capture & Storage to displace up to 5 mt/yr of CO₂ emissions and creation of a regional industrial CCS network in conjunction with Teesside Collective.

Clare Anderson, Worley Parsons

Dr Clare Anderson has 18 years of process engineering experience in Oil and Gas Processing and Refining, Synthetic Fuels, Power Production and Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS).

Clare's experience includes project management along with process engineering design in the conceptual, front end and detailed design phases of large projects along with several years of operations support for offshore FPSOs and onshore gas plants.

Clare's recent experience is in the CCS Industry working across research, engineering and governmental departments in an effort to commercialise CCS technologies. Specific expertise is in CO2 capture technologies, heat integration and energy efficiency along with economic evaluation of power generation technologies and lifecycle assessment.
