Our second Software for Domain Experts conference in Athens on April 12 looks at the business opportunity for developing software for working people - particularly those who make decisions, who we call 'domain experts'.
There are many reasons why this could be an exciting opportunity for small software companies and start-ups.
- Many companies still use very old and inefficient software
- Much enterprise software is very expensive and inflexible
- There are new technologies which make it much easier to develop software, including no-code, low-code, rapid application development, cloud, platform as a service, mobile app development, data management, data analytics and data visualisation tools
- software can be sold as a service (ie for a monthly fee including personalised support) and provided by a small company which includes both software experts and domain experts
- Better software can be a great help to helping domain experts (and their companies) improve performance, make better decisions, work more productively, have better situation awareness, improve mastery of what they do and work to a purpose and long term goal.
Our conference is chaired and co-produced by DImitris Lyras of Lyras Shipping and Ulysses Systems (based in Piraeus), with opening speakers George Karaplis, a former CFO of OTE, and Nikkos J Frangos, partner with The Open Fund, a company which invests in some of the most exciting technology companies in Greece.
