A.  "Struggling Readers and Orton-Gillingham" - presented by Peggy Price, M.Ed., Certified Member/AOGPE

Fifteen to 20% of the population has a language-based learning disability. Dyslexia is the most common learning disability and the most common cause of reading, writing, and spelling difficulties. What are the red flags for dyslexia? What is the best way to remediate and when? Orton-Gillingham is a multisensory, multidisciplinary, diagnostic, and research-based approach intended primarily for students struggling with dyslexia. Parents will leave with a basic understanding dyslexia, the Orton-Gillingham approach and why it works.

B.  "The Importance of Oral Language in Reading Comprehension" - presented by Julie Baker, PhD, CCC-SLP

Reading comprehension abilities greatly depend upon oral language abilities. Research indicates that children with a history of oral language impairment are more likely to present with reading difficulties than their peers. This presentation will address the role of oral language in reading comprehension, as well as language intervention techniques that can help a child improve reading comprehension ability.

C.  "What is it like to be a dyslexic learner?": A Simulation -  facilitated by LEAD Tutors of the LBLD School of Trident Academy Associate and Certified Members/AOGPE

Experience the struggle, frustration and anxiety that go with reading, writing and spelling as a dyslexic learner.  You be will guided through activities that simulate the experiences of students whose learning is compromised by dyslexia.
