WPAT Waldorf Practical Arts Training Module #8

HARD CRAFTS: Participants will explore stone carving, typically grade 12 sculpting curriculum. Convex and concave polarities will be explored using alabaster and soapstone.

SOFT CRAFTS: In the ninth grade tailoring block, we build on skills students developed in eighth grade sewing. We are still exploring what it means to "clothe one's self", but now we can be more precise. Each student will make a shirt to fit his or her own body. This requires new skills- designing, measuring and fitting the garment. More complex patterns and constructions such as collars, facings and button holes will be covered.

We will also have a small, extra credit project. A handwork pouch, incorporating an Egyptian pocket, and embroidery that I have used in the sixth grade, inspired by the Bayeux Tapestry. This project fits perfectly with the Medieval studies of sixth grade main lessons, and has been a huge success with the students.

ANTHROPOSOPHY STUDY: Our Anthroposophy study  we will look at teaching methodology, lesson planning and preparation
