Work in any fine art medium is eligible for three prizes!
Eligibility: All artists 16 years of age or older are invited to participate with recent, original works in any medium. Crafts will not be accepted for this show. Items made from kits or consisting entirely of pre-manufactured parts will not be accepted. The sponsors reserve the right to remove any work deemed unsuitable for display.
Awards: Ribbons and awards will be given in both 2-D and 3-D categories.
Judging: Judging of the artwork will take place at 10:00 a.m. Awards and ribbons will be given in an awards ceremony following the judging.
Art at the Market 2017
Come celebrate Blacksburg’s vibrant arts community by participating in this year’s Art at the Market presented by Downtown Blacksburg, Inc. with sponsoring support from The Community Arts Information Office/Lyric Council, Matrix Gallery, Mellow Mushroom, and the National Bank of Blacksburg.
Fees: Applications must be received by July1st, together with a non-refundable application fee of $35. This entitles you to display as many works as you wish in your assigned booth space and to be included in the judging. A limited number of freestanding metal grids are available for rental. Artists are encouraged to bring their own display fixtures. Please indicate your request for grid pairs on your application. Early application is encouraged as booth locations will be assigned in order of registration receipt. Work displayed need not be for sale, but works not for sale should be designated “NFS” at the show.
Booth Space: Spaces are 10’ by 10’ in size and are located on the lawn across Draper Road from the Farmers Market. Displays must be contained within your area. Each artist will be assigned one space based on preferences listed on the registration form. Check-in begins at 8:00 am. Booths must be set up by 9 am and must remain in place until 2 pm. Each participant is responsible for her or his own display. Please have your name visible in your booth. Artists are encouraged to demonstrate techniques and create work on-site.
For those organizations with multiple artists sharing the booth space, there is a limit of four artists per booth space, and a separate fee of $10 will be required for each additional artist (one is included in the $35 fee) who wishes to be included in the judging (the booth fee includes judging for one artist). Please submit one application for the organization and include the names of individual artists who wish to be judged, as well as all applicable booth and judging fees.
There are no provisions for inclement weather. Be prepared for all weather. For set-up, please park temporarily along Draper Road or in the Media Building Parking Lot accessed from Otey St. After set-up, please move your vehicle to an alternate downtown parking space.
Responsibility: Exhibitors are solely responsible for setting up and supervising their booths. Entry in Art at the Market constitutes agreement to the terms specified above. Downtown Blacksburg, Inc. and the Town of Blacksburg cannot be held responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged work.
