Green Event!
In 2016 the Summer Solstice Fest will be recognized as an official GREEN Event by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (D.E.Q.) In order to achieve this status we are required to meet specific standards which relate in particular to your participation in the following ways.
1) If you must use disposables use products that are bio-based, made of recycled-content, compostable, or recyclable.
2) Minimize Use of Printed Materials. Recycled-content, soy-based inks, and 2-sided copies -- and quantities should be minimized whenever possible!
3) Reduce Overall Wastes. Participants should make a general commitment to reduce the amount of waste generated by their booth. Please do not bring any plastic bags into the festival.
4) Encourage recycling and food composting- We will provide the recycling/composting stations throughout the festival area and display signage to remind customers to use those facilities. Please make sure you set a good example in making use of the recycling and composting facilities.
HELIUM BALLOON POLICY
Downtown Blacksburg, Inc. acknowledges the potential dangers to the environment which can be caused by helium filled balloons.
Therefore the use of helium balloons at festivals and events presented by Downtown Blacksburg, Inc. will not be permitted.
Balloons filled with helium are not allowed to be sold, given away, on display, or in the booth of any vendor. Balloons that are not filled with helium, such as water balloons and balloons used to create balloon animals are allowed but must be correctly disposed of in a trash can after use.

Non-Profits at Summer Solstice Fest 2017
Calling all Community Groups!
Downtown Blacksburg, Inc. invites your non- profit organization to participate in Summer Solstice Fest- June 17, 2017 in Downtown Blacksburg. 1pm-11pm.
You are required to be set up and ready to operate your game by 1pm and remain staffed and open for at least 6 hours during the festival. You decide how much to charge for your game but do not overprice- you will make less money! Your group will keep all the money made at the event.
You will need to provide your own table and tent on which to display information about your organization. Please bear in mind that as a Green Event we would prefer that you limit the amount of paper handouts available.
Non-Profit participation fee is $25. You must provide your own game or activity but it must be approved by the Summer Solstice Fest Committee. Use your imagination- all great ideas are welcome!
Please remember that this is a rain or shine event. If we get our usual rainstorm please take cover but be ready to open up and continue once the storm has passed. Thank you for your participation.

PARTICIPATION DETAILS
- Please return this form with your fee no later than Wednesday April 27, 2017
- For a non-profit booth, the fee is $25
- No applications will be accepted without a check
- No Electricity will be available and NO generators are allowed.
- No Helium balloons will be allowed in the festival.
- All activities must be confined to your booth space.
- Your booth must be open from 1pm until 8pm.
- You must provide your own tent, table and chairs
- Each booth space is approximately 10’ wide by 10’ deep. Your banners and signage may not exceed the height of your tent.
- Downtown Blacksburg, Inc., reserves the right to refuse an application. Decisions by DBI are taken under legal advisement and are final. A full refund of the booth fee will be made in such instances.
