PRESENTATIONS

KEYNOTE PRESENTATION - Building onto a Strong Foundation:
Strategies for Taking Health Care Purchasing to the Next Level

Suzanne Delbanco, executive director of Catalyst for Payment Reform, will share her national perspective on the most effective strategies that employers and other health care purchasers can use to get the best value for their health care spending.  To help the Lehigh Valley Business Coalition build on its long success in group purchasing, Suzanne will share new thinking around benefit and provider network designs, provider payment and delivery reforms, quality measurement and transparency as well as price transparency.  She will also provide updates on trends in policies that states are implementing to make the health care marketplace work better.

2022 State of the Union

Ford Koles' presentation will provide an objective analysis of the biggest trends and market forces impacting hospital and health system strategy. In this year's research, we examine the most important strategic questions facing health care leaders as we emerge from the acute phase of the Covid-19 pandemic. We'll discuss major shifts in influence, purchasing trends, and health policy in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic and start of the Biden presidency. We'll also explore which structural elements of the health care industry remain in flux-and what steps leaders can take to inflect the direction and pace of change. After attending this session, participants will be able to: Understand how the pandemic has (and hasn't) shifted the dynamics of influence and power across the health care industry-not only between industry sectors but also within them. Identify what the combined forces of the pandemic, Biden administration, and Democrats' narrow majority in Congress mean for the future of the health care purchasing landscape. Understand which structural elements of the industry are in flux during the peri-Covid-19 era, especially the future of telehealth, home-based care, value-based care, transparency, physician partnership, and health equity. Plan actionable steps to shape the trajectory of the major structural shifts underway right now.

The Grassroots Movement to Re-Design Healthcare:
Preparing for the Future of Medicine

Dr. Makary reviews the current state of medicine and how to prepare for the future of healthcare. A New York Times bestselling author, Dr. Makary will discuss his newest bookThe Price We Payand the grassroots effort to reform health care. The movement to restore medicine to its mission, Makary argues, is alive and well--a mission that can rebuild the public trust and save our country from the crushing cost of health care.
