about Grace Place
with Deacon Jerry Jacobs
This is an online event. You will receive log-in information once you register.
There is no cost for the event.
Jerry Jacob, Deacon at Grace Episcopal Church in Cullman AL, has a knack for seeing needs and launching innovative programs. After retiring from forming and serving as Executive DIrector of a free health clinic for low-income residents of Cullman county, he helped launch and is now Interim Director of Grace Place.
Grace Place is a creative interaction program that exists to enhance the quality of life of adults with mild to moderate memory-loss and provide respite for their caregivers. Based upon the original work done to establish a similar program called Grace Arbor at First United Methodist Church, Lawrenceville, GA in 2004, Grace Place opened in January 2018 and centers on a one-to-one volunteer/participant (those with memory-loss) ratio and following a pattern of activities with a closely observed four hour per day schedule. Grace Place currently has 10 “regular” participants and 16 volunteers for Tuesday and Thursday sessions.
8Province I has a new website. It contains a special section devoted to diaconal ministry that includes links to previous Deacons Talking web conferences. If you miss our live conversations, you can find recordings of them here. (NOTE: Newer programs will be posted asap. Thank you for your patience.)

Deacons Talking on the Road to Emmaus is a web based way for deacons to walk with each other and share stories in hope of inspiring, supporting and renewing diaconal ministries. It is inspired by the story of Cleopas and another disciple who, after recounting all that they had experienced while walking on the road to Emmaus with a stranger, recognized Jesus in their midst (Luke 24:13-32). Jesus' presence led them to release their fear and grief, return to Jerusalem to share their experience of the resurrected Christ with the gathered community, and renew their ministry with confidence.
Sponsored by the New England Deacons Network and the Episcopal Province of New England (Province I), these free, live, interactive web conferences will occur monthly on the third Thursday, 7:00 -8:15 pm and feature deacons sharing stories from their ministries, exploring case studies, offering peer wisdom and feedback, and exchanging mutual support.
