Join us on February 22nd for a night at Independence National Historical Park.  Our curator will be giving an in-depth look at the Conrad Alexandre Gerard portrait which hangs in the Second Bank of the United States' Portrait Gallery.

Come learn more about the first French foreign minister to the new United States and why Congress commissioned Charles Willson Peale to paint his portrait for their chamber in the Pennsylvania State House. Find out the answers to why Independence Hall is depicted in the background and why there are two statues embracing in the background.

More importantly, find out why this painting is now on our Adopt an Artifact  program and how you can support its conservation.

Event Information:

  • Time: 6 - 7 PM
  • Location: Second Bank of the United States' Portrait Gallery
  • Cost: $10 for current Friends of INHP members, $18 for General Public

What is Artifact Night?

Artifact Night is a program in its 5th year where we take a hard look at some of the artifacts in the park's collection that need help and love.  The event is part of the Adopt an Artifact program where artifacts that need conservation are available to be adopted by the public so that they can be preserved for future generations.
