Course Description:
Participants will explore the importance of supporting diverse learners and children with special needs in early childhood settings. Through presentation, small group activities and large group discussions, participants will develop an understanding of the obstacles a child might encounter and identify a variety of accommodations they can use to support the children attending their program. Participants will develop an understanding of the information that is included in an individualized education plan (IEP), and explore ways to use this information when planning activities that support children with the attainment of their educational goals.
Course Objectives:
1. Identify learning obstacles children might encounter; 2. Identify accommodations and modifications to help children overcome learning challenges;
3. Read an IEP and identify the information that will help support the child within their classroom setting;
4. Incorporate activities to support the attainment of a child’s IEP goals and implement appropriate accommodation/modification strategies into daily classroom routines.
