The West Angeles Community Development Corporation Unity Award

The Unity Awards were created in 1995 to celebrate those individuals, families and corporations who, through their selfless service, charitable giving and special activities, embody the best in socially responsible community building. The Unity Awards Banquet is a black tie gala event held at the beautiful Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel to the delight of over 500 guests.

Each year on the first Thursday in February, West Angeles CDC honors a distinguished "Person of the Year". This man, woman or family best exemplifies the true meaning of faithful service to humanity as well as unparalleled achievement in their chosen endeavors.

Man of the Year 2014

On February 6, 2014, West Angeles Community Development Corporation is proud to present  Matthew "Matt" Ryan Kemp, All-Star athlete of the Los Angeles Dodgers as "Man of the Year." 

  Extremely active with Charity work, Kemp's Kids is a player program within the Dodgers Organization established by Matt to provide underprivileged and inner-city youth with opportunities to visti and experience Dodger Stadium. Along with the player program, Kemp's Kids is dedicated to elevating and increasing the relevance of the Greater Los Angeles area. This past season Kemp's Kids hosted a private screening event of the move "42" on the Warner Brothers Studio lot and will host a special holiday event in December. Matt is also active in home state as well, donating $1,000 for every HR hit to the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma and working with Positive Tomorrows, which is a school for children of homeless families.

Corporate Citizen of the Year

Bank of the West has dedicated $75 billion in loans, investments, and charitable contributions by 2015 to strengthen our local neighborhoods, especially underserved areas. West Angeles CDC is honoring Bank of the west for making this bold commitment. To date, Bank of the West has made $78.7 billion in loans, investments and charitable contributions. They have exceeded expectation in three crucial areas: Community Development Loans, Consumer Loans and Leases, and Community Development Investments. Bank of the West is making strides toward building healthy and vibrant communities through their investment in low-to moderate income (LMI) individuals and the organizations and businesses that serve them.
