Cal-Fresh Information Sign-Up

In partnership with the Wells Fargo Neighborhood LIFT program, West Angeles CDC is bringing fresh nutritious food to you and your family.

CalFresh Benefits can help you and your family:

  • If you are the only person in your household you can apply for CalFresh.
  • If you work full time, you and your family may still qualify for CalFresh.
  • You can buy food at any grocery store or Farmers' Market that accepts EBT.
  •  You never have to pay back CalFresh benefits if you are eligible to receive them.

WHO CAN GET THEM

People who do not have enough money to buy the food they need to stay healthy. This could be you, your grandparents, your children, or your grandchildren. Many people who think they cannot get CalFresh benefits, can. You could get CalFresh benefits if:

  • You do not make much money and do not get SSI / SSP.
  • You are an immigrant and have a lawful residency status.
  • You are the child of an immigrant, even if your parents or grandparents do not qualify.

HOW MUCH CAN YOU GET?

The amount of CalFresh benefits you get depends on how much money you make and how many people are in your family. The average monthly benefit is approximately $200 per household.

HOW DO YOU USE THEM?

CalFresh benefits are not coupons anymore. Now you get a card, like a debit card. It is called the Golden State Advantage Card, and your monthly benefit is pu on the card automatically each month. When you buy food at the store, you just slide the card through the card reader just like any debit or credit card. You can use the card to buy food at most supermarkets, at some smaller neighborhood and ethnic markets, and if you are homeless, elderly or disable you may purchase prepared meals from participating food restaurants.

HOW MUCH MONEY CAN YOU HAVE AND STILL GET CALFRESH BENEFITS?

You can:

  • Earn money from a job
  • Get unemployment benefits
  • Get child support
  • Have money in savings (no limit)

Special Rules:

Immigrants, students, seniors and former felons should check with the Calfresh office for more information. Rules can change so check with your worker.

People who get Supplemental Security income/State Supplemental Payment (SSI/SSP) are not eligleble for the Calfresh Program in California, but other household members may be. Social Security Retirement Benefist are ok.
