Photojournalism, the veracity of information in photography.


Adult Workshop on Thursday May 17th | 6:00 - 9:00 pm                                               What to shoot, how to frame and how to edit pictures are constant considerations for jounalists. Join the workshop and learn how to tell a story with pictures.                                                                                 Event is $45 for members, $55 for non-members - limited to 14 participants

Lecture on Friday May 18th | 7:00 pm                                                                                       The Veracity of Information in the Photograph: Proof by Image                                                                                                                                                           Event is $10 for members, $15 for non-members

         Dimitri Beck is the editor-in-chief of the Paris based photojournalism magazine, Polka. Dimitri has been part of the executive management of Polka since 2008, contributing to the development of the magazine, gallery and website. He has been instrumental in setng up new ventures and has created many new projects in order to bring photojournalism to the foreground of the world’s arena. During his spare time Dimitri gives lectures on photojournalism at conferences and educational institutes.

         Prior to working at Polka, Dimitri was the Director of the Aina Photo Agency based in the Afghan capital Kabul from September 2004 to December 2006, where he was also the Editor-in-chief for the Anglo-French feature magazine Les Nouvelles de Kaboul - New Afghanistan. Manager of Aina in Kaboul, Dimitri was also involved in local and international projects for international institutions and media such as the United Nations, the World Bank, Free Voice as well as several embassies and NGO.

           In addition to conducting a lecture, Dimitri will also hold two workshops, one for adults and one for children. The lecture will take place Friday, May 18, 2012 at 1:00 pm, and will cost $10 for members and $15 for non-members. The photography workshop for adults will take place from 6:00-9:00 pm, and will cost $45 for members and $55 for non-members. The children's workshop will take place the following morning on Saturday, May 19, 2012 from 9:30-11:30 am. The cost of this workshop is $20 for memebers and $30 for non-members.Registration for the children's workshop is limited to 12 students, so be sure to register soon!
