Understanding SBA Certification Programs - Presented by Ida Benson, Business Opportunity Specialist, U.S. Small Business Administration

The government offers many tools to help small businesses build their potential to compete more successfully, not only in the global economy, but in the federal sector as well.

As the owner of a small business, you may qualify for specific SBA federal procurement enhancement programs based on a variety of factors including location and/or being socially and economically disadvantaged.

Register now and find how to qualify for the 8(a), HUBZone, and WOSB programs (Women Owned Small Business/Economically Disadvantaged Women Owned Small Business).

The UH PTAC – Who We Are and What We Do - Presented by Timothy D. Scarborough, CFCM, Director UH Procurement Technical Assistant Center

The University of Houston Procurement Technical Assistance Center is a Program of the Defense Logistic Agency’s (DLA) Procurement Technical Assistance Program (PTAP).  The Program was implemented to increase small business participation in Federal Government contracting for businesses that have been operating in the commercial market and have a proven record of successful performance.  Since its inception, the Program has expanded to include providing assistance to businesses in all three areas of government – Federal, State, and Local.  The UH PTAC fulfills the objectives of the PTAP through one-on-one advising and a variety of classroom workshops.

Tim has been with the UH PTAC since August 2013.  Prior to joining the UH PTAC he worked on projects in support of the Department of Defense in both the United States and Middle East as a small business owner.  In 2007, Tim retired from the U.S. Air Force after 24 years of active duty, spending the majority of his service as a Contract Specialist and Contracting Officer.  He holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and is recognized by the National Contract Management Association as a Certified Federal Contracts Manager.
