Sustaining Animal Agriculture:
Balancing Bioethical, Economic, and Social Issues

Hosted by the Council for Agricultural Science and Technology (CAST), in cooperation with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).

Animal agriculture—a major industry in the United States—is rapidly evolving through inputs from diverse sectors. What are the intended and unintended consequences of certification programs and regulations on animal welfare, the structure of agriculture, the economics of animal production, rural demographics, and food security? This type of comprehensive, objective analysis has not been available before.

Symposium speakers and panelists will focus on several critical issues, including

  •  Integration of Competing Concepts Surrounding the Ethical Use of Food Animals
  •  Bioethical and Animal Welfare Issues
  •  Long-term Survival and Food Security
  • Analysis of Certification and Regulatory Programs
  • Societal and Global Impacts
  • Consequences of Decisions by Consumers and Government Decision Makers

The symposium is free, but seating is limited and registration is highly recommended.  On-site registration is available but discouraged due to the time needed for non-government personnel to go through security.

ARPAS members will earn 14 CEU's for attendance.  Confirmation will be provided upon request.
