As people are becoming more interested in where their food comes from, the trend of raising backyard chickens is growing. Guelph and many other municipalities approve backyard poultry. However, many growers have questions about bird welfare, the environment, winter mangament, egg quality, manure management, and the overall health of their flocks. The Poultry Industry Council's course will help address some of these questions, as well as covering the basics of chick care, nutrition and disease management.
The course will be taught by Al Dam, the Ontario Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) Provincal Poultry Specialist and Dr. Mike Petrik, Poultry Veterinarian and Welfare Expert.
