Registration

Due to limited capacity, priority enrollment will be given to employees of the following eligible organizations:

• Good Health and Wellness in Indian Country (GHWIC) funded tribes and organizations
• Urban Indian Health Programs, as defined by Title V of the Indian Health Care Improvement Act
• Methanmphetamine and Suicide Prevention Initiative (MSPI) or Domestic Violence Prevention Initiative (DVPI) Indian Health Service-funded organizations
  
• National Urban Indian Family Coalition (NUIFC) member organizations

Session Description

Do you work for a tribe, tribal health organization, or urban Indian organization interested in learning more about alternative ways for evaluating programs and services? Join us for this one and a half day interactive training led by:

Debra Hansen, M.Ed., an associate professor and county Extension Director with Washington State University, focusing on Community and Economic Development in rural Stevens County. Her programs include workforce and entrepreneur support, nonprofit training and broadband access. She was one of the original architects of Ripple Effects Mapping, developed in 2008, and she continues to map programs and train others. She has a Master’s Degree in Adult Education from Penn State.

Rebecca Sero, PhD, an evaluation specialist for Washington State University Extension, responsible for increasing the organization’s capacity to assess the effectiveness and efficiency of its programs and services. She helps conduct and train on “in-depth” Ripple Effects Mapping and is most often engaged with determining how to best analyze the rich data that is produced from REM evaluations. Sero received a PhD in Child Development and Family Studies from Purdue University and an MS in Family Studies from Miami University.

Lorie Higgins, PhD, a Community Development Specialist and Rural Sociologist at the University of Idaho, focused on community assessment, leadership development, small business development, and developing tools and trainings for Ripple Effects Mapping as well as using it in most of her own research and outreach activities.

Training goals:

• Understand how Ripple Effects Mapping (REM) might measure program impacts
• Understand the benefits of REM and when it’s an appropriate tool for program evaluation
• Learn how to use Appreciative Inquiry in gathering stories
• Build skills to engage groups in mapping their accomplishments
• Learn how to write appropriate prompts to elicit program ripples
• Experience the mind-mapping technique through experiential exercises
• Learn how to use the data to inform participants and stakeholders

Travel Scholarships

Thank you for your interest in a travel scholarship. All travel scholarships have been dispersed for this training.

Travel scholarships will cover air travel, lodging, hotel parking and ground travel to and from the airport and to and from the training. Travel scholarship recipients will have two nights of lodging reserved for them at the Silver Cloud - Seattle Stadium August 7th and 8th.

Lodging

UIHI will coordinate lodging for travel scholarship recipients at a location TBD.
