Riley County Walk Kansas

Congratulations on being captain of your team. Through a modest increase in physical activity and changing our eating habits, most of us can improve our health. Walk Kansas is a program that motivates people of all ages to make the most important change . . . to get started! The program is simple, inexpensive and safe, and all you need is a team of up to six people ad a desire to get moving.

Teams do not really need to be active together, although they may if they want to. They simply pool their minutes each week to work towards the chosen destination - 423 miles across the state of Kansas. That means each team member should strive to "walk" 2.5 hours (150 minutes) per week, which is equal to about 10 Walk Kansas miles.

Team Captain Checklist
1) Recruit a team of up to six members - one captain (you), one co-captain and four teammates. Complete the online registration form and pay by credit card or send check to the Riley County Extension Office.

2) Distribute the Individual Registration form, Participant Information, Approved Activities/Fruit & Vegetable Chart, and Individual Log to each team member.

3) Check in with your team members each week to encourage them and collect their weekly minutes and fruit/veggie. The team captain (you) will report totals to the Extension Office by 5 p.m. on Monday of each week. The first 2-weeks can be reported together due to Spring Break vacation. You may call (785-537-6350), email (sriffey@ksu.edu) or fax (785-537-6353) to report your team totals.

4) Team progress will be posted on the state Walk Kansas website www.walkkansas.org by Wednesday of each week. Thank you for serving as a team captain!
