Just what is a Waddle?

Since 1996, basset hound lovers from across the Carolinas and beyond, have converged on the Charleston, SC area to celebrate their love of basset hounds and their support for Carolina Basset Hound Rescue.

Year after year, our biggest annual fund raiser has grown with participants, activities, and sponsorships.  The rapid growth of fans on our website (www.cbhr.com) and Facebook page has only accelerated this movement.

The grand finale of this action packed weekend of yappy hours, meet and greets, auctions, dinners, and pageants, is our presence in the famed, Charleston Christmas parade.  Basset hounds as far as the eye can see, followed by “pooped pup” trucks, continue to fascinate the crowd and has become a favorite of parade attendees of all ages!

If you are one that would like a little holdiay at the beach, while helping out abandoned basset hounds in need, check out the details and fun pictures below!

  • 1:00 - 2:00pm ~ Charleston Walking Ghost Tour Not familiar with the story of Lavinia Fisher?  She could quite possibly be America's first female serial killer.  Capture the charm of historic Charleston and it's beautiful antebellum homes while learning the secrets behind those walls.  Will your furry tourist be the one to sniff them out?
  • 1:00 - 2:30pm ~ Pooped Pup Trailer Decorating Party:  Even though most of the hounds strut their stuff during the parade by showing the thrilled crowds the true definition of the verb, "To Waddle", we will also have two trailers for those that tire out before the end of the parade, or just are not up to walking it at all.  That is okay.  We want everyone to join in the fun!  Let's do our hounds proud and make these the most festive sight in the parade.

W10 YappyHour

3:00 - 5:30pm ~ Yappy Hour out on the Deck!!This year, we are extending an open invitation to the public for this free and fun pet friendly event!  Join your fellow CBHR supporters along with locals that would just love to hear how it is to be owned by a basset hound.  Yappy Hour will be held out on the deck so you can enjoy spectacular views, awesome conversations and perhaps, even a "Scooby Snack" (our signature cocktail of the evening).  Word has spread so wide and far about this spectacular time, even Santa is making an appearance and has offered to have his photo taken with your pet in order to benefit CBHR!  Santa's elves wanted to be on on the fun and helping the hounds too and so they will be working the special raffle baskets that you must be present to win.  You just never know what kind of entertaining things can happen at such an event and we hope to see you there!

  • 6:00 - 10pm ~ Dinner and Live AuctionDine from a buffet filled with mouth watering delicacies such as:  Garden salad with tomatoes, cucumbers, and mushrooms; Penne pasta salad with marinated tomatoes, basil and parmigiano-reggiano; Beef tenderloin medallions with grilled mushrooms; Stuffed chicken breast with fontina cheese; Yellow tomato and chive risotto; Broccolini with roasted garlic and sun dried tomatoes; and Butterbean succotash.  Don't forget to leave room for dessert!  After that wonderful meal, we will continue with the live portion of our auction.  A great time was had by all last year with the hysterical style of Nat Nick Nack and his Assistant, Hannah Black.  I wonder what surprises are in store for us this year?  An important note about this dinner....Seating is VERY limited!  It is highly recommended that you do not delay registering for this portion of the weekend.  $35/person.

  • 10:30am - 1:30pm ~ Registration at Gaillard (for those without a bell).  There is a $10. fee for the first person in a family and $4. fee for each person thereafter.  A bell should be placed on each dog's leash as evidence of payment.
  • 2'ish ~ We strut our stuff in the Waddle!! (Don't forget those poop bags...)
  • Following the parade, transports will be provided (yep, via pooped pup trucks) back to Brittlebank Park.  At this point, people and hounds alike generally start heading back home while already making plans to return the following year.

Important Auction Information

Carolina Basset Hound Rescue does realize that not everyone who would relish a weekend at the beach with fellow basset hound lovers is able to attend the event of the year.  Therefore, we are trying something new to give other supporters a chance at bidding for the amazing items that are donated to raise funds to help us continue our mission of to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome unwanted basset hounds across the Carolinas.  Therefore, we are going to do an initial offering of our auction items online.  Final bidding will be completed at the Dinner on Saturday night.  Those that have a passion for a certain item can designate a proxy bidder at the Dinner.  Stay tuned for instructions and special updates on featured items!
