2010 CASET Economics in Education Conference 

CASET invites you to a day of celebration of the great work of California economics teachers. Enjoy a day of fun as we present resources and information to help you improve your students' understanding of economics.

97% of past attendees agreed that the day is very valuable in helping them teach econ to their students and 95% said that they would attend another CASET conference and would recommend it to their colleagues.

Conference attendee information:

• 100 scholarships are available for up to $125 available to cover substitute fees, travel expenses, or conference registration fee of $90 - if you decide to use the scholarship to cover your registration fee, you will not be eligible to receive reimbursement for travel/sub-fee

Sessions

• Visualizing the Economy - Giff Asimos (Helix Charter High School) and Kim Gibbs (Cuyamaca College) will cover how to use GIS and other online/technology resources to bring economics alive in the classroom.
• Good Reads - Brian Shank (Ponderosa High School) and Brian Held (Loyola High School) will present great economic reads that offer thought provoking ways to help cover economic principles with your students.
• Ethics in Economics - Dr. Cecil Jackson (University of Southern California, Professor of Clinical Accounting) will present fascinating ways in which ethics are carried into economic subjects and what role they play.
• CASET's Greatest Hits - CASET members will present the best lessons, activities, and resources they have found over the years.
• Timothy Taylor is managing editor of the Journal of Economic Perspectives; author of Principles of Economics; and lecturer for America and the New Global Economy, Economics.

Luncheon Speaker, Timothy Taylor

Timothy Taylor is an American economist. He is Managing Editor of the Journal of Economic Perspectives, a quarterly academic journal produced at Macalester College and published by the American Economic Association.

Taylor received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Haverford College and a Master’s degree in Economics from Stanford University. At Stanford, he was winner of the award for excellent teaching in a large class (more than 30 students) given by the Associated Students of Stanford University. At Minnesota, he was named a Distinguished Lecturer by the Department of Economics and voted Teacher of the Year by the Master’s degree students at the Hubert H. Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs.

Professor Taylor has been a guest speaker for groups of teachers of high school economics, visiting diplomats from eastern Europe, talk-radio shows, and community groups. From 1989 to 1997, Professor Taylor wrote an economics opinion column for the San Jose Mercury-News. Many of his columns have been disseminated nationally over the Knight Ridder Tribune wire. He has published multiple lectures on economics through The Teaching Company.
