The The Mckees Rocks Community Development Corporation, Focus on Renewal, 10,000 Friends of Pennsylvania, CONNECT and Good Schools PA invites you to a special screening of:

The New Metropolis

The New Metropolis, an award winning documentary by Andrea Torrice is being screened in McKees Rocks on November 11th at 6pm at the Father Ryan Center for Performing Arts.  Join fellow McKees Rocks residents, business owners, community leaders, and public officials to participate in this special screening and community conversation.

America’s “first” suburbs, those suburban communities built next to America’s urban centers, were once the birthplace of the American Dream. Seeking to escape the smokestacks of the central cities, and a housing shortage following World War II, thousands of middle class families flocked to the newly constructed suburban homes.

The New Metropolis illustrates how many of these original suburbs are now facing a crisis: a dwindling tax base, population and business loss, decaying infrastructure, and demographic changes. Lacking policies to help reverse these trends, many towns are looking for strategies for revitalization.

Come view this powerful film and engage in a community conversation about the shared challenges that communities like McKees Rocks face, the strategies that can be deployed to confront and overcome such challenges, and the successes community collaborations and investments have made in suburbs around the country.

The event is free but seating is LIMITED.  All attendees are requested to register so that everyone has a seat!
