Globalizing Charlotte

Join us for the final event in the UNC Charlotte Community Conversation series.

How has Charlotte, N.C. rapidly evolved from a "regional backwater" to the 18th largest city in the nation?

And despite its rapid transformation, Charlotte remains distinctively southern--globalizing, not yet global.

Contributors to the new book Charlotte, NC: The Global Evolution of a New South City explore what happens when the external forces of globalization combine with a city's internal dynamics to reshape the local structures, landscapes, and identities of a southern place.

We will take a closer look at how NASCAR, emergence of ethnic neighborhoods, and city planning are affected by the changing demographics in the Charlotte region.

Stay after the discussion for a reception and book signing by the contributors to Charlotte, NC: The Global Evolution of a New South City. Books will be available for sale.

Event is Free and open to the public, but registration is required
