Climate Change and the Chesapeake Bay

A Workshop Series for Environmental Educators

Climate change is the most important environmental issue of our time, overwhelming trends illustrate these changes and their wide-ranging impacts.  Society and the environment are already being affected by the melting of ice sheets, sea level rise, ecosystem changes, alterations in ocean chemistry, and changes in global water supplies.  The United States is already experiencing the effects of climate change, and the Chesapeake Bay region is particularly vulnerable to many of these impacts.

Session 1 of this four part workshop series is intended to be a collaborative process that will provide participants with:

  • In-depth knowledge of key aspects of climate science,
  • An introduction to scientific work being conducted in the Bay area that explores questions related to climate change,
  • An Introduction to scientific models and the role they play in our understanding of the impacts of climate change,
  • Access to resources for teaching about climate change,
  • Experience with hands-on activities for exploring issues related to a changing climate, and
  • Opportunities for stewardship actions that can address the causes and the consequences of a changing climate.
