PANELIST PROFILES
- Colin Kniveton, CEO, Isle of Man Department of Economic Development
Colin Kniveton was appointed Chief Executive of the newly formed Department of Economic Development in April 2010. The Department is at the centre of the Isle of Man Government’s strategy to stimulate economic development and is responsible for the promotion of the Isle of Man’s financial services sector, tourism, aircraft and shipping registers, company registry, e-business, the TT, other major motorsport events and information technology.
- Alex Herman, Managing Director, Ecolve
Ecolve, an electric vehicle company, is currently seeking funding and is in discussions with the Isle of Man Government regarding the relocation of the business to the island. Alex has spent three months in China researching and testing various batteries, controllers and motors for electric scooters. With all the testing and data collected, Ecolve has the capability to construct the best possible scooters for range, speed and quality. Ecolve has built three prototype drivetrains which have been showcased at the Milan motor show along with a drivetrain for an electric sports bike. The interest in the sports bike was so intense that a full working model was built which competed in the Isle of Man TT Zero race 2010.
- Courtenay Heading, Business Development Director, Bladon Jets
Courtenay Heading is a serial entrepreneur. Bladon Jets, an Isle of Man company, is his fourth start-up since 1985. Bladon Jets has developed the smallest axial flow gas turbine in the world, the key component of which is a patented blisk technology (one piece blade disc). An application of the jet engine is a ‘range extender’ for the hybrid electric car market, resulting in dramatic weight and size savings.
