LEARN TO USE NATURE AS YOUR PATTERN FOR FOOD PRODUCTION, HOUSING, AND COMMUNITY

Permaculture provides a framework for consciously designed landscapes that mimic the patterns and relationships found in nature. These systems yield an abundance of shelter, water, energy, and food for the provision of local needs that provide diversity, stability, and resilience for local populations.

LEARN HOW TO DESIGN FOR STABILITY, RESILIANCE, AND ABUNDANCE AT A COMMUNITY FARM THAT IS DEDCATED TO SUSTAINABILITY AND COMMUNITY HEALTH

Jacobson Ranch/ Bluebird Farm

ABOUT THE LOCATION

Located 1.5 miles from Nevada City, Bluebird Farm was established as the first farm in the Living Lands Agrarian Network in 2004.  It was named after the Western Bluebirds nesting around the 20 acre Jacobson's Ranch. Property partners Dale and Diane Jacobson love having the farm community and its energy on their property.  Along with their son-in-law Luke, Dale and Diane took Cathe’s Intro to Practical Permaculture weekend workshop in Nov 2009.

Tim from Living Lands Agrarian Network cultivates a total of 1.5 acres  at this unique site, which has a light soil and a relatively warm micro-climate that is very conducive to summer vegetables. Cathe’ manages a ½ acre orchard of diverse fruit trees and grapes. In the photo above is the beginning of the creation of the Wise Wild Women Permaculture Gardens.

Dale and Diane generously share the property with the community year round, and they are very excited to have the Permaculture Design Course here. In the spring there is a community  Easter celebration and kid’s egg hunt through the spring grasses in the orchard. In late May, the sixth grade Woldorf schools from the Sacramento area gather here for the annual Medieval Games. During the summer there are  community farm potlucks every Thursday evening starting at 6pm. It’s a place where families and friends gather to enjoy the gardens, talk, share a meal and occasionally dance to contra music. Live music is always encouraged and enjoyed.  Great blackberry picking surrounds the beautiful 20 acre property.
