AUTISM & HEALTH INSURANCE: Making Your Health Insurance Work For You

Join us for this important workshop!

Who Should Attend?

  • Are you frustrated with your health insurance?
  • Are you tired of paying premiums, only to be told that your child doesn’t qualify for services?
  • Are you tired of hearing that speech and occupational therapy aren’t medically necessary?
  • Do you wonder if your health insurance will cover ABA services?
  • Do you have a child that is newly diagnosed and not sure how to access services through your health insurance?

We are flying in two of the leading autism health advocates in the state of California: Dr. Karen Fessel and Feda Almaliti from the Autism Health Insurance Project, a non-profit corporation dedicated to helping families secure insurance funding for autism-related interventions.

Early registration is $20 or $25 at the door.  Space is limited.  Scholarships may be available.  Contact our office for more info.

 Speakers:

Dr. Karen Fessel, is the Founder and Director of the Autism Health Insurance Project, and a co-founder of the ASDinsurancehelp yahoo users group, a group for parents needing assistance with insurance issues.  She is the proud parent of a 15-year-old son with Asperger's, and an 12 year-old daughter. She holds a Doctorate in Public Health from UC Berkeley.  She co-chairs the autism subcommittee on insurance with East Bay Autism Regional Task Force and served as a parent advocate on the DMHC Autism Advisory Workgroup.

Autism Health Advocate, Feda Almaliti, is the proud parent of 3 boys. Since her youngest son was diagnosed with autism at 18 months, she has fought tirelessly to get him the help he needs. She successfully took on the largest health care provider in California and secured for her son 26 hours of ABA, 2 hours of speech therapy, and 2 hours of occupational therapy, weekly all paid by her health plan. She and her son were also featured in a news story on ABC and CBS news. She has testified on numerous commissions and boards.
