Gisele Bundchen

Gisele Bündchen, international supermodel, mother, and United Nations Environmental Ambassador, is recognized worldwide for her long-standing and passionate commitment to the environment. Ms. Bündchen has launched countless international advertising campaigns including Balenciaga, Valentino,Victoria’s Secret, and Apple. She has been called the most recognizable face in fashion, appearing on magazine covers, billboards, runways, and in movies. With a truly global reach, Ms. Bündchen uses her fame to bring awareness to the critical environmental issues of our day, spreading the message of conservation to people from all walks of life.

She was born Gisele Caroline Bündchen in a small town in Brazil, one of the most bio-diverse countries in the world. She and her five sisters witnessed both the beauty of nature, as well as the destruction of forests and ecosystems. During a return visit to the Amazon Rainforest, Ms. Bündchen experienced first hand the devastating effects water pollution and deforestation had on the native population whose health is dependent on the health of their environment. Inspired to act, Gisele used her eco-friendly flip-flop line, Ipanema Gisele Bündchen, to call attention to environmental issues and raise funds for environmental projects, especially forest and water related projects in the Amazon and Atlantic Rainforest.

To date, the Gisele Bundchen collection has sold millions of pairs of shoes, which has helped fund numerous conservation efforts, including The Tamar Project, a marine conservation project helping to protect the five endangered species of turtle that inhabit the Brazilian waters, and Brazil's Save the Xingu Waters campaign. She also has a forest with her name on the “Florestas do Futuro” Progamm, an important reforestation project of Atlantic Rainforest.

Returning to her hometown of Horizontina, Ms. Bündchen, alongside her family, developed the Projeto Agua Limpa (Clean Water Project) in 2008 to restore and preserve water quality in the region by implementing sustainable environmental management and promoting the recovery of native vegetation. Within the first year, 40,000 native tree saplings were planted in the area.

In 2009, Ms. Bündchen was appointed Environmental Ambassador for United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) to focus attention on some of the biggest threats facing the planet—climate change, loss of biodiversity, and environmental degradation. Leveraging her popularity, Gisele became a key spokesperson for conservation during the 2010 Year of Biodiversity.

The face that launched some of the world’s most memorable campaigns has now become the face of global environmental action. In addition to several eco-friendly initiatives, Ms. Bündchen finds everyday ways to share her environmental passions with the world. She recently developed Sejaa Pure Skincare, an all-natural product produced with as little impact on the environment as possible. She has her own green blog available in both English and Portuguese, which educates and inspires visitors with information on a variety of critical issues.
