Food for Thought: The Dynamic Sibling
Location:  First United Methodist Church at the Chicago Temple:  77 West Washington, Pierce Hall

Do you find communication and dealing with conflict within the family a challenge?  You're not alone.  Linda Sandman will talk about how family relationships change over time and strategies for siblings in dealing with it all.  A light breakfast will be served.

Linda Sandman, MSW, LCSW is the Clinical Director of the Developmental Disabilities Family Clinics at UIC's Institute on Disability and Human Development.  She provides individual and family therapy to adults with developmental disabilities that need a broad range of mental, emotional or behavioral support.  In addition, Linda has overseen the expansion of skills building groups on topics like Anger Management, Social Skills and Dating/Relationship Skills.  Linda is bilingual (Spanish/English).

Disability Pride Parade
Location:  One South Dearborn Plaza
The 8th Annual Disability Pride Parade celebrates disability empowerment and the 21st Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act.  The overall mission of the Disability Pride Parade is to change the way people think about and define disability; and to promote the belief in society that disability is a natural and beautiful part of human diversity that people living with disabilities can take pride in.
About 40 disability groups and organizations march in the parade. The parade kicks off at 11 am from Van Buren St and marches north on Dearborn to Washington St., ending a Daley Plaza.  The post-parade celebration at Daley Plaza features music, performances, speakers, and exhibits.

Sibs in the City

Where did the idea of Sibs in the City come from?

For the past few years, a new national organization for adult siblings has been forming called the Sibling Leadership Network.  Organizers from two states very active in its formation, Wisconsin through the Fox Valley Sibling Support Network and Illinois through SIBS (Supporting Illinois Brothers and Sisters) hope to make more siblings from their states aware of this new organization and provide siblings some fun and networking.  With the Disability Pride Celebration in Chicago, a city brimming with great restaurants, shopping and attractions, and an opportunity to include Linda Sandman from the University of Illinois at Chicago, it seemed like a great fit.  We hope you enjoy this first-ever Sibs in the City event.
