Organic Vegetable Production Workshop

This year is a great time to grow your own food! Join NOFA-NJ instructor Al Johnson to learn the building blocks for a productive, healthy organic garden. Sustainable Cherry Hill's Gardening task force presents this full day workshop to help get you started!

Topics include:

  • Picking your garden location and planning your beds
  • Soil health and preparation
  • Seeding and Transplanting
  • Home care for diseases and pests
  • Harvesting your produce


This workshop is appropriate for first-time gardeners or those beginning organic gardening.

Instructor Bio:

Al Johnson managed educational organic farms and market gardens for 13 years, including two years in the tropics as a Peace Corps Volunteer. He was a former Coordinator of the Apprenticeship in Ecological Horticulture at University of California at Santa Cruz. He has been an inspector of organic farms and food processing plants for the past 21 years and was the Administrator of the Northeast Organic Farming Association of NJ for three years. Al has a Master’s Degree in Environmental Education and is a certified Agricultural Teacher. He has been teaching workshops and courses on organic agriculture since 1977.
