Overview: In 2011, the Leadership Roundtable Series, a three-event program, will explore aspects of one unifying question:
How can we create environments that effectively inspire and cultivate dynamic leaders in industry, organizations, and our communities?
At this first Leadership Roundtable, four to six thought-provoking leaders will have a highly interactive discussion exploring the powerful skills each generation brings to work, as well as the opportunities and friction that are revealed when younger professionals and the incumbent generation come together. Panelists will share insights into management and leadership challenges and share actionable strategies.
Agenda:Take-aways:
Provocative Perspectives for Discussion
“Millennials love working, require instant gratification, want and need answers, and want to know why. There is no reluctance or fear from them. The key to managing this generation is communication, communication, communication.”
Lyssa Adkins, Scrum Trainer, Agile Coach
“Unlike their Boomer predecessors, Millennials prefer IM, texts and social networks, along with work-life balance, frequent feedback, environments that value teamwork and collaboration. Boomers, meanwhile, have historically been motivated by status, title, and compensation.”
Lauren Rikleen, Boston College Center for Work & Family
"Every new generation that enters the workforce brings with it challenges of adaptation for it’s employers. In the 80’s and 90’s there was a struggle as Gen X entered with different expectations than the Boomers. In the 60’s and 70’s it was Boomers who shocked the system. Each time, older generations voiced their frustrations. The difference is that this is the first time that the older generation (Boomers) and the younger generation (Millennials) are roughly the same size."
Travis Robertson, "The Millennial Revolution"
