Move Your Money Open Forum

If you are sick and tired of the big banks crashing our economy and exploiting the world's resources for their own economic and political gain then it's time to make the shift.  By shifting your money from corporate banks into local credit unions and community banks you are telling the large firms that you don't approve of their business practices.  It may seem like a small step but collectively moving our money is the beginning of real economic change.

To Kick Off to our Move Your Money week long campaign we will be hosting a public forum and panel discussion at the Boulder Outlook Hotel.  The Move Your Money Campaign is designed to educate and inspire YOU to switch your banking to a local credit union or financial institution.  To learn about our presenters see below.

Family Friendly Event!  Bring your kids, we will have supervised children activities including: Soil Science, Worms (kids will get their hands dirty and learn about what makes up our soil), and Penny Sculptures (working together to create sculptures out of pennies).

"Our Community - Our Money,"  The Replicable Story of a Win-Win Negotiation Between a Credit Union and a Community."
  (skype presentation)
Bill Moyer is a progressive, "radical solutionary" activist based on Vashon Island, WA.  His organization, the Backbone Campaign is known for their expertise in giant puppets, banners and "artful activism" in service of grassroots movement building.   Desiring a concrete way to build local power, Bill and friends happened into the idea of organizing a local credit union.  That impulse evolved into a surprisingly rapid escalation of momentum and an unexpected, but successful conclusion.  Bill and 2 other community members now serve on the Board of Directors of Puget Sound Cooperative Credit Union, a former employee-based credit union that now has a branch on Vashon.

Dennis Paul: Having worked in the credit union industry for 21 years, Dennis has been involved in all facets of retail delivery, lending, operations, marketing and business development.  Dennis’ current responsibilities include the oversight of all of Elevations Credit Union’s RealityCheck consumer education initiatives.  Having built a program that has gained national attention, Dennis fully embraces the need to equip the consumer with relevant and unbiased information that will give them the chance to truly achieve their financial goals.

Steve Carr:  Public Relations and Education Specialist, has served Boulder Valley Credit Union and its members, in a variety of roles for over 23 years. In 1991, Steve pioneered Risked Based Lending, a new lending strategy that ensures borrowers receive the best rate possible, based on their credit qualifications. This strategy is now used by nearly all credit unions nation-wide. He has earned a variety of local and national awards for his community contributions, and marketing programs. Currently, Steve is working with Boulder Valley School District high schools to organize student credit unions to further promote financial education for our youth.

Richard Fleming: Creative Coop Media - Richard is an electronic cinematographer, video producer, actor, editor, and new media specialist.  He is the owner of Creative Coop, a multimedia company that specializes in web video for small and large businesses, serves as the Board President for the Boulder County Independent Business Alliance (BIBA), and the Founder of Cinematic Arts of Colorado.
