More about Musically Minded

Musically Minded Academy is located in Oakland's Rockridge district, a 10 minute walk from Rockridge BART. Just off highway 24, highway 13. Parking's a breeze and we are handicap accessible.

Within the last 7 years, Musically Minded has grown from a living room based piano studio, to a renovated garage to a 6000+ square foot facility in Rockridge. Adding specialized teachers along the way and always including regular group workshops, the studio grew and became a 501(c)3 non-profit in 2007.

This series is an idea of Alan Hall, one of the drum instructors at the Academy. He will be playing on August 7th with Terrence Brewer and August 21st with his own group.

A brainchild of executive director, Anna Orias, Musically Minded Academy has expanded to offer opportunities for community building through music lessons, classes, workshops, student recitals and professional concerts.

Please come by for a visit sometime!

About the Artists:

Richard Thomas
Richard and Feona
Enter Richard Thomas: the newest member of Musically Minded Academy's teaching staff. From an early age, Mr. Thomas has shown great talent and hard work: from posts at various churches and musical productions to Grand Prize Winner of the Auburn Symphony Young Artist's Program. He joins our Academy piano faculty with 15 years experience in performance and has studied with some of the great teachers across the nation including: Thomas Schumacher of Eastman; Mack McCray and Paul Hersh of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music; and Dr. Victoria Neve of San Francisco State University.

Feona Lee Jones

Feona Lee Jones is a pianist, keyboardist, accompanist, songwriter, composer, and multi-instrumentalist. Her mesmerizing piano playing and teaching emerged from a diverse set of experiences and interests: her Asian-American-European background, her musical training, and an early and ongoing exploration and application of meditation and intuitive awareness.

Feona's thrilling and passionate performances have received wide acclaim; her virtuosic repertoire highlights works of the late Nineteenth and early Twentieth century. Her first major performance, at age nineteen, December 2006, was with the Diablo Valley College Philharmonic: she played the first movement of Rachmaninoff's 3rd Concerto. Her Senior Concert was a full performance of this Concerto at Mills College in 2009 from which she received her B.A.

Feona currently studies with Dr. Kenn Gartner (Juilliard), San Rafael, California. She is very much in demand as a teacher of piano in Pleasant Hill, California.
