Wah-Tut-Ca is still growing! As a result of the hard work done by our camp promotions team and the great program run by our Reservation staff, a week of summer camp at Wah-Tut-Ca is more in demand than at any time in the past. Because of this increased demand, I’m happy to announce that we will be adding a sixth week of troop camping at Wah-Tut-Ca for the 2012 summer season.
In order to give as many boys as possible a quality week of summer camp, the Council Camping Committee is implementing a new campsite reservation process. We know that this is the second change in as many years, but the current first-come-first-served approach has proved to be stressful for the units, the Camping Committee, and the support staff in the office at a time when everyone’s attention should be focused on the current summer. It also leads to large variations in the number of boys in camp from week to week which makes it more difficult for the staff to provide a consistent, quality program.
This year, we’re asking that each troop fill out a campsite preference form and indicate their first three choices of week, first three choices of campsite and the number of boys they expect to bring. This is the same as previous years.
The first change is that the campsite preference forms will be accepted at any time through August 22nd, 2011. We will no longer be using a first-come-first-served system for reservations received before this date. The second change is that the Camping Committee will use the campsite preference forms and information about each troop’s previous stays at Wah-Tut-Ca to match each troop to a campsite and week where we believe we can offer your boys the best experience at camp. Whenever possible, we will place a troop in the same week and campsite as the previous year if their campsite preference form indicates this.
By September 9th, the Camping Committee will release the 2012 campsite roster. We ask that you make an initial deposit of $200 per troop to confirm your campsite by September 30th. Any sites not confirmed by the deadline will be made available to other troops. Any reservations made after September August 22nd will be accepted on a first-come-first-served basis and are subject to campsite availability.
As was done this summer, in order to fit all of the troops into camp there will be instances where two or more troops will share a campsite. In the last few years we have changed from having a small number of large troops to a larger number of small troops while simultaneously increasing the total number of boys in camp. The Camping Committee is aware of the issues that this creates for troops, but the long term solutions to these problems are not simple or quickly implemented and we thank you for your patience as we work to maintain a high quality experience for every troop and every Scout.
As part of the new process, we are excited to offer an online version of the campsite preference form. Simply click the link below to start the process. Once the form is filled out and submitted, you will receive a confirmation email for your records. Campsite preferences can still be submitted by phone or email to Linda Reiber at 978-372-0591 or lreiber@bsamail.org, or in person at the Haverhill office.
If you have any questions on the process, please feel free to contact me directly at 978-302-8136 or YCCCampComm@gmail.com. I look forward to meeting with each of you over the summer and working with you throughout the coming year.
