“Many Voices, One Love” conference
Moved to the fall of 2012!
In January of 2011 an idea was birthed by a few activists within the NY LGBT and AWAB communities to create a conference exploring the intersection of race and sexuality in light of the marriage equality bill that was making its way through the New York House and Senate. In April the “Many Voices, One Love” conference was born through the dreaming and commitment of a dedicated group of congregations and organizations in New York City. We dreamed and planned in hopes that our event would bring some new dialogue to our communities as we expand and explore the work of so many before us.
What has happened over the last few months is something we could not have imagined when we began planning our event in April! Marriage Equality is now the law in NY State and we are looking at the repeal of DOMA as a part of the 2012 election cycle.
This new blessing birthed a new opportunity and vision for the “Many Voices, One Love” conference, one that would be more timely and effective in the larger marriage equality context. After prayerful dialogue, the planning team and member institutions, by consensus, agreed to reschedule the conference for the fall of 2012.
Without minimizing our previously planned day of conversation, education, and celebration, we wish to expand the dialogue to include more voices and churches in the New York metropolitan area. We believe this decision will ensure the “Many Voices, One Love” conference garners a prophetic edge that will have not only state but national significance.
We look forward to seeing you there! To God be the glory!
