In partnership with Keiser University the Southwest Florida Chapter of ASTD is presenting the course entitled

Introduction to eLearning

What is eLearning?

  • eLearning comprises all forms of electronically supported learning and teaching.
  • eLearning is essentially the computer and network-enabled transfer of skills and knowledge.
  • eLearning applications and processes include Web-based learning, computer-based learning, virtual education opportunities, and digital collaboration.
  • Content is delivered via the Internet, intranet or extranet, audio or video tape, satellite TV, and CD-ROM.
  • It can be self-paced or instructor-led and includes media in the form of text, images, animation, streaming video, and audio.

The learning objectives for the course are for you to gain an understanding of:

  • eLearning
  • SCORM, the eLearning standard
  • A process to take existing courseware and convert it to eLearning
  • The basic tools required to develop eLearning courses
  • The Learning Management System, or LMS

Meet the Instructor

Charlie CarpenterCharlie Carpenter will be leading the Introduction to eLearning Course.  He has over 23 years experience training, coaching, and facilitating operations improvement programs in a multitude of industries and organizations.  He holds a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering with a Minor in Economics from the University of Maine.  After completing the Edison Engineering Program at General Electric he went on to complete his Masters Degree in Manufacturing Engineering and Applied Statistics from the University of Massachusetts. 

In March of 2009 he founded EducateVirtually.com with the intention to take proven course offerings and make them available to anyone via the internet.  All of the courses have been proven in the field around the world.  He has worked with clients in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Brazil, China, Australia, South Africa, Germany, Belgium, and the U.K..   

Since starting EducateVirtually.com he has authored 17 eLearning courses for his website and Learning Management System (LMS).  He has also authored 14 SCORM compliant eLearning courses that will play on any organization’s LMS.
