Becoming a certified Grant Writer is as easy as 1-2-3:

  1. Participate in a Smart Grant Writing Workshop.  
  2. Upon completion of the Smart Grant Writing Workshop, you are encouraged to write and submit a grant on behalf of a group or organization of your choosing (you will have the help and guidance of your trainers available to you at no additional cost). 
  3. Write a grant that demonstrates your understanding of the grant writing process - and submit it for review (be sure to include supporting documents). Once submitted, your practicum is reviewed by our grant writing experts who will provide constructive feedback. After your practicum is finalized, you will receive an Grant Writing Certification in the mail. To view certification requirements, please click here.

Workshop Presenter:

Stephen Price is a graduate of the University of California at Davis with honors in Psychology, holds a Masters Degree in Research Psychology, and a Master of Divinity degree from Golden Gate Seminary in Mill Valley, CA. Stephen discovered his talent in grant writing ten years ago, when he learned his father's trade and Educational Resource Consultants was born.

Over the past ten years, Stephen has written successfully funded grant proposals in a variety of areas including professional development, school improvement, service-learning, after school, mentoring, school technology, family literacy, youth fitness, violence prevention, and college access programs.

This workshop covers everything you need to know to succeed in grant writing, even if you do not have previous experience. Lesson 1: Getting Ready for Grant Writing

  • A step-by-step method to turn your idea into a fundable grant project.
  • The 12 questions to ask before you start any grant writing project…..so you can be ready to tell the funding source exactly what they want to know.
  • 7 ways to improve your grant’s chance of success before you turn on your computer to type.
  • How to position yourself for grant funding…..even if your organization is brand new, has no track record, or a small operating budget.

Lesson 2: Finding the Right Funding Source

  • You will learn the top sources of grant funding in the United States.
  • How to use two websites that put a wealth of grant opportunities at your fingertips…..no more endless searching.
  • How to pick the funding agencies that are most likely to say “yes” to your project.
  • What to write in a letter of inquiry to pique a foundation’s interest.
