The Inner Landscape of the School Leader

In your role as a school leader, it is critical to develop the inner resources that allow you to manage the many external challenges and demands of your job.  On-going personal reflection, open dialogue with like-minded and trusted colleagues, and intentional time away from the busy-ness of school-life are essential practices that reinvigorate and sustain your passion and joy for your work. 

This seminar, held in the ideal setting of Santa Fe, NM,  explores the inner workLabyrinth of the school leader and provides participants time and space to examine and recommit to the core values that shape their leadership practices.  Participants will write, talk, reflect, and creatively approach challenges individually and in groups. Time will also be provided for exploring Santa Fe and enjoying the landscape for both reflection and play.

SEMINAR SESSIONS:

Topics and Experiences for the April Seminar may include:
  • Starting with Why: Why do you do what you do?  Why in the place where you do it?  Why do you care so much?
  • The Context of Your Leadership: Revisiting your personal mission, history, and vision
  • Touring the Labyrinth: Going inward in order to go outward

  • Authority, Role, Task and Purpose: Seeking Clarity and Setting Boundaries
  • The Balcony and the Dance Floor: Reflection in Action
  • Mind the Gap: The Ideal vs. The Real in your Leadership Practices
  • A Visit to the Georgia O’Keefe Museum

SEMINAR FEE: 

The cost of the seminar is  $875.00 if registered between September 15, 2011 and March 22, 2012. Late Registration is $950.00 after March 22, 2012.  We expect the seminar will be filled to capacity, so register soon to secure a spot.

The seminar fee includes:   

  • A full breakfast in the hotel's restaurant, La Plazuela, each morning
  • Hosted cocktail reception on Sunday Evening
  • Dinner on Monday Night
  • All seminar materials
  • Entry to the Georgia O'Keefe Museum

CANCELLATION POLICY:
The SFLC reserves the right to cancel this seminar if there is insufficient enrollment. In this unlikely event, participants will be notified well in advance of the institute and given a full refund. The SFLC, however, cannot be responsible for any financial obligation incurred by participants because of travel cancellations.

 REFUND POLICY:
When requested in writing, the SFLC will refund registration fees as follows: 75% of registration fee when requested 45 days or more from first day of institute; 50% of registration fee when requested 31–44 days from first day of institute; no refund within 30 days of the first day of institute.

Because of the small size and personal nature of the Santa Fe Seminar,  is extremely important that all seminar participants arrive in time for the first session and stay through the final session. 

  • The first session begins at 4:00pm on Sunday, April 22 
  • We will say our final goodbyes at noon Wednesday, April 25

WHY SANTA FE?
This setting in Santa Fe is being provided to enhance the creativity, inspiration Georgia Oand expansive thinking that are prerequisites for outstanding leadership.  Just as the school environment is a critical component in the education of children, the location for these conferences offers surroundings conducive to openness, the free exchange of ideas and a healthy discourse among committed professionals. There will be time built into the seminar for participants to enjoy Santa Fe on their own, with their fellow participants, or with their partners or spouses (La Fonda's generous $99.00 per night room rate applies three days before and after the seminar.)
