Lodging

Lodging is available at both the Executive Tower, where the course will held, and across the street at the Hilton Portland's main building.

Participants are responsible for making their own arrangements for overnight accommodations.  A limited number of guest rooms are available at the Hilton Portland ($95 + tax) and Executive Tower ($105 + tax) for this training course.  Please make every effort to reserve your hotel room before the deadline of January 13, 2012.  After the deadline, the room block and negotiated room rate are not guaranteed.

To cancel a hotel reservation, call the hotel directly. Please familiarize yourself with the hotel cancellation policy to avoid unnecessary charges.

 

Transportation

The Hilton Portland Executive Tower is located off of SW Taylor Street and SW Sixth Avenue.

MAX is the rail system in Portland.  The Blue and Red Lines are  block away from the Executive Tower and run on SW Morrison Street and SW Yamhill Street.  The MAX Green and Yellow lines run on SW Fifth and Sixth Avenues. There are also multiple bus lines that run down SW Fifth and Sixth Avenues.  Use the trip planner to plan your transportation.

 

Parking

The Hilton Portland Executive Tower is located off of SW Taylor Street and SW Sixth Avenue.

Self-parking is available at the Hilton Executive Tower for $20 per day or $27 for overnight guests.  The are several other idendepent parking lots that surround the hotel for an average of $10 per day.

Foundations for Best Practice in Lactation Care: The 5 Day Course, is a complete, in-person, core program to begin practice in evidence-based breastfeeding and lactation care.  Participants will be able to provide accurate, current and consistent information about breastfeeding and lactation and be able to support new families in feeding their babies from birth through the process of weaning. Each participant will be given the knowledge to work with other healthcare providers to ensure continuity of care for  breastfeeding mothers and infants.

 

 

Who Should Attend

  • An individual who wants basic preparation for becoming an IBCLC
  • An IBCLC requiring CERPs or exam preparation for re-certification
  • Maternity or pediatric nurse working with families with small babies
  • Obstetrician, midwife, pediatrician, or family medicine physician involved with the daily feeding and parenting issues of new families
  • Childbirth educator
  • Labor and/or postpartum doula
  • WIC Program clinic staff
  • Facilitator of early parenting education
  • La Leche League leader
  • Public health nurse working with new families
  • Occupational Therapist or Speech Language Pathologist working with breastfeeding newborns
  • Registered Dietitian working with pregnant and breastfeeding women and their babies

anatomy of the breast | the wonders of human milk | getting breastfeeding started | position and latch | early breastfeeding expectations | near term/late preterm/preterm infants | early clinical challenges in breastfeeding | communicating effectively with new mothers | tools and techniques of the trade | insufficient milk challenges | hyperbilirubinemia | normal breastfeeding patterns and predictable hurdles from three to six months | postpartum adaptation | breastfeeding and working outside the home | breastfeeding after six months | biological weaning from the breast | feeding and parenting issues of new families

Education Credits

To earn any contact hour credit, daily attendance is required; no partial credits are availablae. Participants will obtain a Certificate as a Lactation Educator.
